Brittani Starr is an American writer, artist, and creator of the modern mythic philosophy Zarlequan, a symbolic framework focused on identity sovereignty, ritual practice, and creative expression.
Her work explores the idea that identity is not fixed but can be consciously chosen and reinforced through daily practices, storytelling, and symbolic ritual. Through writing, music, and community gatherings, she invites participants to examine inherited expectations and intentionally design the identity they want to embody.
Background
Brittani Starr was raised in a traditional Christian household but began questioning inherited belief systems early in life. At seventeen she left home and spent time living in a convent, navigating instability and homelessness while living in Los Angeles.
Those experiences shaped her interest in self-authorship, resilience, and identity transformation.
Over the years she explored philosophy, religion, artistic expression, and personal reinvention as tools for navigating major life transitions. Her work is influenced by philosophical ideas from thinkers such as Jean-Paul Sartre and Albert Camus, particularly the concept that meaning is not given but created through conscious choice.
The Creation of Zarlequan
Zarlequan began as a creative mythic world developed through Brittani Starr’s writing and music. Over time it evolved into a broader philosophical framework that combines storytelling, symbolic practice, and identity exploration.
Rather than presenting itself as a religion or belief system, Zarlequan is designed as a consciously chosen mythic structure that participants can engage with creatively and interpret for themselves.
Central elements of the Zarlequan framework include:
• Identity sovereignty
• Ritual practice as behavioral reinforcement
• Symbolism and creative expression
• A thirteen-month lunar calendar
• Monthly rituals known as Glassen Fires
Through these practices participants explore identity, creativity, and meaning in a contemporary context.
Current Work
Brittani Starr currently writes and produces work exploring identity, philosophy, and creative mythmaking.
Her projects include:

• The book The 7 Principles
• The identity exploration program 30-Day Identity Reset

Philosophy
At the center of Brittani Starr’s work is a simple idea:
Identity is not fixed.
Human beings often inherit roles, expectations, and belief systems from family, culture, and institutions. While these structures can provide stability, they can also limit personal authorship.
Brittani Starr’s work encourages people to examine those inherited scripts and intentionally choose the identities they want to practice and reinforce.
Through philosophy, ritual, and creative expression, Zarlequan offers a framework for exploring that process.
